The challenge

 

P&E Board were seeking to improve the standard of advice it received on Health and Safety, as previous advice was generic, dated and not engaging. Paperwork supplied to site and used in tenders was unappealing and cumbersome. Training given to operatives was limited to face-to-face toolbox talks. This was time consuming and not productive. On site operatives were not involved in the process of improving health & safety and had no means by which they could raise concerns. Operatives were not inducted into P&E Board working methods and therefore were not fully aware what was expected of them when on site.

Services provided

 

Working with the Partners of P&E, Hamilton Deed consultants implemented a specific approach and attitude when visiting site.  Emphasis was placed on creating two-way communication with operatives regarding safety in order to ensure buy-in and understanding of all policies. Audits were specifically created for P&E Board work activities which provided clarity and efficiency. Paperwork, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements, was moved into a concise RAMS Pack delivered to each site and produced for each tender. Online training and digital delivery replaced face-to-face toolbox talks. All employees of P&E Board were fully inducted and records kept digitally. A pocket-sized handbook detailing what was expected when on site was produced and distributed to all operatives.

The outcome

 

The partners have an informed and unbiased view on safety conditions at each of their sites. The RAMS supplied to site and used in tenders are regularly praised by developers and often used as a benchmark for other contractors. Online toolbox talks and digital training save the Contracts Managers and administrators over a working-month of time each year for P&E Board. A vast improvement in communication means the workforce are fully aware of who to contact if clarity on any issue is required.
